Union Learning Events There are many open events organised for members and family members to attend. Often there are taster courses available for things such as reflexology, digital photography and self defence. You might see the learning bus at these events or at your workplace. Watch out for the latest events posted on this site.
Benefits Steve Walker, GMB Project Co-ordinator was speaking at a successful event at Jeld-Wen when he said, "There are many reasons and barriers why adults don't get back into learning and this project has been very successful in removing these. Flexibility, cost, resources, time and lack of confidence have been a problem in the past, but with the use of Keystones' Multi-Mobile Learning Bus complete with 12 laptop computers, a printer and a 42-inch plasma screen this has been overcome with great results. All the learning and courses come to the site after the shift has finished, which the members like best". Royal Norfolk Show 2005 The GMB and Thompsons the Union Solicitors teamed up to raise the profile of the benefits of GMB Union membership. Steve Walker, GMB Project Co-ordinator, offered the public the chance to use a digital camera and were shown how to print pictures.
Mr and Mrs Fleet having a session on speed learning with digital photography Information of membership was given and all 70 people who took part had the chance to win a digital camera from a prize draw. Steve dressed up as the GMB Learning Doctor and offered advice on learning to those attending the speed learning session. It is hoped that new members will be recruited from the two days and next year they intend to do the same.
